While the use of two homophones as the punchline is hilarious (only second to using two homographs as the punchline), the most amusing part of the strip to me was in Panel 3. Lizzie declares, “I guess I’ve grown!!” as she appears to have just shrunk.
Terrific, mom! You bought her two snowsuits for the price of one – a first one that didn’t fit last year, and a second one that won’t fit this year. What a smart shopper! Think of all the money you saved having your daughter walk around in clothes that don’t fit! Woohoo!
Buy clothes that fit – clothes that don’t cost very much – clothes from thrift stores! They can have as much clothing as they can stand – at $1 per piece!
It’s helpful when your kids have cousins around the same age or a bit older to do some hand me downs with. I know several families like this and they’re always handing down stuff between cousins. By the time something makes it to the last kid it has been well worn.

All moms try to guess their kids’ future sizes in order to take advantage of end-of-season sales. Sometimes, it works, but all too often it does not.

The subtext of “For Better or for Worse” seems to be that Ellie hates being a wife and a mother. It’s kind of depressing.
Of course your kid grows, Ellie. That’s a kid’s job.

Check the clearance rack at Zellers (RIP). Found many a bargain there.

Don’t bother buying too big. The clothes get worn looking, and by the time they do fit, they aren’t fit to wear!
