“an’ now she’s askin’ me to go over to her place an’ hang around!!”
Here is the point of Martha’s call. She is extending the olive branch of peace and inviting him to her house. What more can she do? She tried to make up him with him at school. She tried to make up with him on the phone. This seems pretty reasonable to me, but Mike is obsessed with the idea that he has somehow been horribly mistreated by Martha and what she has done to him is unforgivable. He wants to play by the rules he knows, and those rules are, “You can’t talk to your friends about me, I mean, you can’t ‘dump all over’ me.”
This is a toughie. The rules for romance are ambiguous by nature and trust has to be earned. Mike lost trust in Martha when she overshared with her girlfriends while he hadn’t. That felt like a betrayal. He thought their romance at camp was magical and special and he was deflated when he realized Martha did not feel the same. Mike will come to realize how fickle tween romance is.
Congratulations, Michael – you have taken the first step – you have recognized that it’s all a game. Now you just have to learn how to play – but know that the rules are fungible.
I think Michael and Martha should agree to just be friends… for now. They’re too young to enter into all this romance stuff. They still barely know each other. It’s far better to develop a friendship first, then let that take them into romance later if it’s meant to be, when they’re old enough to handle it.
Mike,…Women are weird and complex creatures, impossible to be understood by the male of the species, and, like dynamite,,,,NAY!…Like NITROGLYCERIN, must be handled with care, AND, at your own risk. Good Luck, Buddy, and be ready for some pain.

I believe in the quote from “My Fair Lady”! “Women are irrational that’s all there is to that!”

No one enjoys reaching out a hand in friendship (or lips in romance) only to have one’s feelings trodden on.

Anyone else remember this from a recent popular e-mail?
A photo of a control panel with many meters, dials, lights, alarms, labelled female.
Then, a panel with a simple on/off switch labelled male!

One of the things that keeps the Game of Romance interesting, is that the rules are perpetually changing.

When a woman has her ‘sights’ on a guy he is doomed. Women are only the ‘weaker sex’ in the physical.

Women! Can’t live with ‘em, can’t live without ‘em! I’m told women say, “Men! Cant live with ’em!” Venus and Mars at war. Poor Earth!
