    Volunteer at a food cupboard and you will spend a lot of time checking expiration dates. We get stuff that’s years past the BB.

    Expiration date? What’s that? If it ain’t dented, bulging, or leaking, and you get a vacuum hiss when you open the package, it is probably edible (but may not be delectable). Dry goods (cereals, crackers) on the other hand usually start to taste funny well before the expiration date-I think when they switched to the “healthier” fats.
