Crack is MUCH more addictive. I’ve seen a kid steal his dad’s rental Mustang, unbolt and sell the passenger door off of it for $50 worth of crack to a dealer, who needed the door for his own damaged car. Later the guy went back and gave the whole car to the dealer for another $50 rock, and told his dad the car got stolen. It will make people do unbelievable stuff for a quick rush. I’ve never seen tobacco do that to anyone.
Yet cigarettes and booze are totally legal. They both kill people quite often, and considering second hand smoke and drunk driving, they aren’t even considerate enough to kill only the people who use them. Meanwhile, there are people sitting in jail for being caught with pot, when I’ve never seen anyone high on marijuana do anything more stupid than fall asleep in inappropriate places.
stevedodge833 :You SAW that and did nothing? You went back and SAW the transaction for the rest of the car? You were right there? You must have been the crackhead, dude. The dad’s pretty stupid, as well, if he didn’t notice the missing door. The reality is that the high from crack (now taken over by meth) is intense but short-lived, and crackheads don’t drive; those high on pot prefer to avoid anything requiring serious thought. A drunk, now, is a different character altogether, as he is not only an excellent driver, but super-smart and handsome. If I had a choice between driving with a drunk or a pothead, there’s no question. A trip with a pothead will certainly be slow, with many diversions to admire interesting sights, but a trip with a drunk may be far more lethal.
Let’s be clear about addiction. Many people think that addiction per se is some kind of problem. It’s not. We are all addicted to water and oxygen, will suffer extremely painful withdrawal symptoms (including death) if deprived of them, and will commit all sorts of heinous acts to acquire them if they disappear. We literally can’t live without them.
So it’s not the addiction that’s the problem, it’s the ill effects of what we’re addicted to (cholesterol-laden dairy products in my case), and the crimes that people have to commit to get their fixes if those things are illegal. The real problem, IMHO, isn’t so much the drugs themselves (which can and should be treated as the medical problem they are) as their illegality. Take that away, and over half the associated problems disappear along with it.

“But it’s 8 degrees and there’s two feet of snow!”
Later -
“Hey, I’m out smokes. Need anything from the store?”

It’s okay, Mr. Butts. Plenty of teenagers still spoil their lungs with you, and then go on to ‘know better’ once it’s too late.

Did we ever meet Mr. Crack? I mean – Mr. Butts and Mr. Jay are regular characters, but I don’t remember ever meeting Mr. Crack.
Who would play Mr. Crack in the movie? Jack Nicholson?

Why is Mr. Butts jealous, he kills more than all the illegal drugs put together. Though alcohol does its share of mass killing every year.

It is no fun watching your mother dig through ashtrays so she could have something to smoke until my dad got home with more cigarettes.
