I like it when the comic strip covers two things at once. First we have Aunt Bev questioning Elly’s punishment and very indirectly suggesting that he was justified in getting angry yesterday and might not deserve that punishment . Second we have Elly doing the same kind of yelling at Bev which was what got Michael in trouble yesterday with Laura. Very cleverly done.
’Don’t be silly" Really, Elly?? You suck as a mom in all this trip to the farm. You should know that Mike is miserable and you COULD have moved him into your room instead of leaving him in the HALLWAY. You certainly are most unqualified for the mother of the year award. Insensitive to Mike’s moods and feelings, being so oblivious about him, expecting him to fall into the line and be quiet about it, etc. John was not much of help either. Bev is his sister and he knows there is not enough room for everyone at her house. He should have allowed Carrie to stay with them and checked in at a motel. They were too cheap to do such a thing and we know they could afford it. Someone said it is “rude.” Nonsense. To keep everyone happy and content, the host ought to understand why they choose to stay at a motel and not be offended.
So I was wrong, it was an Elly decision to kick Mike out. I only reason I thought it was a John move is because it’s John’s family and John wouldn’t want his son disrespecting his family and their lifestyle. If I’m being honest though, maybe the trip to the farm should have been shorter. It doesn’t have to be from Christmas to New Year’s. It could be just the week of Christmas and then come back home in time for New Year’s.
When I was young, Mom and Dad would take us from RI to Upstate NY. My Dad’s friend from WWII had a dairy farm with over a hundred milking cows. Four parents and eight kids in farmhouse for Thanksgiving is a great memory from my childhood.
Last year we had company for 3 weeks at Christmas and believe me by the time they left we were more than ready to see them go. Unfortunately it left some hard feelings also and that is sad.

Poor Elly! She gets no love whatever, not even from the commenters! She’s a lonely, lost woman with broken dreams and fly-away hopes, unappreciated and alienated. And she can’t even be allowed to try to make the best of a crappy situation! Well, I love you, Elly! :-)

WOW!! Talk about over analyzing a strip. This one is over 30 years old. A little late to apply ‘social therapy’

This is why there are hotels. The peace of mind is worth the expense.
