How dare he. Elly should say he didn’t discuss it with her so she’ll have to let them know. He has no right especially since all the work falls to Elly!
It’s customary in many marriages for the partners to discuss something like this, before inviting relatives to visit. Maybe things are different in Canada?
Farmers taking a family vacation in the summer? Auntie Bev knows that is not going to happen and I will guess that John does too. I suspect this is a joke Bev is playing on Elly to get her reaction. We will never see the whole Cruikshank family vacationing in Milborough in the summer.
Actually,it’s easier for farmers running a cow-calf farm to get away in the summer than any other time of year since calving is usually done in the spring, and cattle are put out to pasture afterwards.A hired hand can look after things for a while giving the Cruikshank family lots of time to bed down with the Pattersons.

Now take a deep, deep calming breath. Breathe slowly. And lower your blood pressure. You still have approximately six more months to blow your top.

Role reversal! I hope we get to see how that goes! I would advise Elly to start trying to talk them into using a hotel now!

I hope they have a big lot. John needs to build a guest house.

A visit in the summer? That would be fine. They could kill the AC for a few days and make one of their kids sleep in the hall or laundry room

Now Elly is seeing how Michael is feeling. But I’m sure everything will be fine, as long as the AC and the plumbing works.

And maybe things are different just with this family! Who says they represent all of Canada?
