My husband is this way about our pets when something happens and they have to be treated by the vet. Poor guy. . . I have no idea why I don’t get upset the same way.
I was going to say that this is a typically female thing to do; crying with relief. But @M2MM’s post shot that theory down. I hope she picks up the phone soon and tells Larry the news, or hearing her crying he’s going to think the worst.
I’m a pretty disconnected guy emotionally but two times I did tear up were when I had to put my dogs down. Once I got home I looked at old pictures of them and had a good cry.
Used to work front office for a veterinarian. Saddest thing I ever saw was the afternoon a 17-year-old young man and his father walked in, the boy carrying his 16-year-old dog for the long good-by. The boy looked just numb. Still tear up thinking about it 40 years+ later.
Greg, this has been a very touching arc. It has brought back some fine memories of departed pets, and brought back some of the heart-ache of losing them, too. But it’s a good (?) heartache.Thank you!!!
Years back, my teenage son saw a tear in my eye when I watched a sad move and then bragged to me “I’m glad I don’t cry at movies.” The following day I stopped at the store and bought a movie, handed it to my boy and said “I don’t have time to watch this right now, will you watch it tonight and tell me if it’s any good?” He agreed and the next day handed it back and said “That was a dirty trick, dad.” I took the copy of Ol’ Yeller and put it on the shelf.

Way to go, Doc and DZ! I’ll bet Eddie has been worrying himself sick all day at school.
