Woman: Gasp... That... that's blasphemy!! Danae: How so? Woman: Because that'd be questioning the church I was raised in! Give me one good reason why I should switch to your church!! Danae: In my church, men are subservient. Woman: Where do I sign?
palos about 14 years ago
In the last panel, the sign reads”
Danaeism Rules, Others Drool

Laying aside the fact that we don’t ‘attend’ church, but that we are the church, at ‘mine’ the women at least let the men think they run things.

Danaeism is not a church nor a religion. Clearly, it is a cult, and the Red-haired Lady is about to drink the Kool-aid!

Looks like a younger woman suckering an old one. That ain’t new, so what’s different.

Religions are just cults with more members. Good start, Danae!

Of course there is a G-d, and I think H/She appreciates all attempts at humor and self-expression. :D

I’ve spent most of my life trying to understand what is wrong with the human brain that will allow so many people to believe in unreal things. Santa at least brings presents, but we grow out of him.

PSSHEARER, SHAME ON YOU! YOU NEED TO READ “Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus”
To the rest of the readers: If I win the lottery, can I open a Taoist Temple on my property and sign all the money over to the temple for tax exemption?

pschearer–the youngest child in my family is 22 and Santa still comes to our house every year! Maybe you grew out of it…

The leader of our church is a woman.

But, do the aliens arrive in Boeing 707’s in your church?
pschearer Premium Member about 14 years ago
If I still believed in Santa, I wouldn’t be admitting it.
GuntotingLiberal about 14 years ago
Makes just as much sense as Scientology and Mormonism. Game on, Danae.
pschearer: The reason religions are popular is because a god gives them someone to blame, someone who’s orchestrating what feels like chaos, someone who knows all the answers, someone who cares about them, and some hope of continuation after death. Beats gifts of plastic toys from China, yes? Which would explain why people grow out of belief in Santa before they grow out of belief in a god.

Ok ppl, stop being all technical. This is FUNNY!!

Absolutely fabulous Wiley. Love the look on Danae’s face in the third panel.
Palos, thanks for the translation. Even at 200% I couldn’t read the last line.

SOME religions get aggressive… some grow by being NON aggressive… Which one lasts longer, and has more adherents?
rumplesnitz about 14 years ago
Very well put ChrisMaple. I would admonish you not to throw out the baby with the bath-water, but I’m sure you have already been there and done that…
False faith is demonically inspired, and true faith is demonically attacked. We must each work out our own faith.
True religion however is to take care of widows and orphans.
Destiny23 about 14 years ago
There is of course a problem with Danae’s premise: no men are going to join her church!

Man created god in his own image.

Some years ago a main street in a large city in Mexico exploded, killing and injuring many people. The cause of the explosion was unvented sewer gases. The injured people, when interviewed, accepted their injuries as the will of a god, rather than the uncaring negligence of corrupt government and contractors who did not vent the gases. The result of religion seems to be mindlessness in many instances but it is convenient for those who want to control others.

Santa brings presents that are paid for by someone else. God gives gifts that He paid for Himself, and loves us when we’re at our most unlovable. You grow out of belief in one, and grow into belief in the other.
And something is not unreal merely because it doesn’t register on our five physical senses, or because it offends logic or common sense – if that were the case, most of science in the last century would qualify as “unreal”, if not downright bat-poop crazy. But there it is.

that’s the problem with you people, live and learn. It’s “like ALL POLITICAL campaign promises?”

the science teacher said to the litle Christian girl, why do you believe in God, you can’t see God or touch God, or hear God, so what makes you think there is a God, the little girl said, I can’t see your brain either but I believe you have one
in my church, “God” is just a word for the unknown mystery, the creative force of the universe, and scriptures are humanities attempt to make sense of the mystery and live in such a way that does more good than harm, maybe if we keep reading these ancient texts we would finally learn to not make the same mistakes over and over again and treat one another better and not worship money quite so much………….

Anybody ELSE think that she and Calvin oughtta hook up? (I mean, COME ON! Danaeism AND G.R.O.S.s.!) THAT would be an interesting situation, huh?

I think people have been suggesting that paring for years. What would be fun is seeing a “job fair” type situation with all of the kids and their “causes” next to each other. You know, Lucy the Psychiatrist, Danaeism, GROSs and such. I am sure that Wiley has a number of scenarios in mind - just can’t get the appropriate permissions.

Interesting, I just scanned through the comments and not once did I see the name Jesus Christ. You know, it’s always easy to pick on Baptists, Catholics, “God”, and the Bible…but the problem with picking on “religion” is that you are ultimately picking on a man by the name of Jesus Christ. He very clearly intended to establish a faith that should be spread to the entire world.
Who here is against Jesus Christ? Let’s hear it…
pawpawbear about 14 years ago
Quite the contrary, HabanaroBuck. I am always on the side of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am not perfect nor eloquent in my expression, but Jesus is my Lord and Savior and everyone elses, for that matter. Most just do not get it.
wndrwrthg about 14 years ago
It’s not so much I am against jesus, it’s the followers that I find to be a problem.

I am a Christian of very strong faith, and I feel exactly the same way.
Bill Thompson about 14 years ago
Since when does “religion” automatically and exclusively mean “Jesus Christ”?
Joseph Krois about 14 years ago
Danae as a witch… To focus your fears… That religion at best… Belongs to psychics and seers… But for all of the fear… In the words of the blessed… Know that Santa is love…. And with presents bequest…. Will more hope in the end… Than a deceivious friend… Stand up to the notion of an acrimonious end…

Ah Wiley - you have done it again A great strip and the comments make me laugh just as much. Oh I am an atheist for those who cant read between the lines.

Belief in Jesus, is NOT religion….it is a relationship with a real person. Religion is any man-made set of rules and regulations, coupled with a worship of a man-made god. Neither man nor woman is in charge of the church…Jesus is, regardless what people think or do.
