So it turns out that Elizabeth was not being obnoxious and was not having trouble with a teacher. She was agonizing over a common fear among kids, that of not being accepted and having no real friends. But Liz haters are like Elly haters. Neither Liz nor Elly can ever have a good motive for anything they do…
Yes, Linguist. I have found out that in the US and Canada one has many acquaintances, but few if any friends. Cities in North America are characterised by millions of people all crowded, and lonely, together.
I remember feeling this way. It takes a long time to discover who your real, true friends are. Strangely enough, some of my true friends are people I have known since I was the same age as Elizabeth is in this strip.

I always thought of those people as family. Not friends. I still don’t.

I have always felt that it was not the quantity of friends that counted. It was being able to count on the quality of my friends.
I have had many, many acquaintances, in my life, but very few friends.

I’ve always told my son; to have friends; you have to be a friend!

@KODJ KODJIN: It’s always been a good saying, but it doesn’t always work in reality…

When Dawn said her family would love to have Farley for dinner, Elizabeth did not quite understand.

Liz is Elly’s daughter. That will become evident when she is grown up. April definitely is not.
