How hard could it be? Being universally admired and respected…

Shouldn’t she be happy that he’s taking himself out of harm’s way? If he wants to retire early, let him. He’s earned it.

As I wrote (yesterday?), he’s a young man….still has a family to support, so the real question is, what will he do NOW? I’m sure he won’t sit home playing video games while Marcie works.

I like that idea of him drawing a pension while still young enough to pursue hobbies or other things (maybe starting a business) that could be detrimental or risky if he wasn’t getting a pension every month. He could start his own security business or maybe just spend his time volunteering. He’ll be out of harms way AND still getting paid every week. What’s bad about that?

Hubby was “offered” a chance to retire at 55, and leapt at it. The choice was to look for another job within the bank, possibly moving out of state, and no guarantee he wouldn’t get “retired” again. He loves being home and I love having him around.

Oh that is the resolution? OK, lets see this comic as been going on for 22 years and Joe’s been a cop since day one. If this was going as real-time as lets say FBOFW, then Joe would have been on the force for literally 22 years. I would say that he’s been on the force for at least ten years because I’m calculating Sunny’s age and she’s in middle school now. He’s has every right to retire, but he still has four kids and a dog so what’s the next step in Joe’s life?

I agree with a point someone else made recently: “I’m going to retire” is a decision, not a resolution. What makes it a resolution is the unspoken clause: “in spite of all the pressures and temptations to change my mind before I can follow through.” The odds against keeping a New Year’s resolution are steep enough that, realistically, they always seem doomed to failure, which may be why he wanted to keep it a secret until it was a fait accompli. But how could he retire without Marcy finding out before it was too late to pressure him?

Retired police have more dangerous lives than when they were packing weaponry and wearing vests… Public still doesn’t trust you, and the bad cops endanger everyone’s life.

He can do what he wants and police work is dangerous, so I get that. Still, on his salary (plus a nurse wife’s salary), they don’t seem to be set to put 4 children through college. Unless his rich relatives step in to help, but that’s not a plan any self-respecting man would count on.

Maybe I am being in denial but I still think its a decoy. I mean really Joe loves being a cop, and is a great cop, why give it up now all of a sudden? Still think its a decoy

I don’t see why anyone retires early. Especially Joe. Maybe it’s a joke?
