Sheâs in what up to her neck? Tiny deformed hands? Is Thickâs DNA contagious?
And why is Thick so acutely aware of her financial situation? Is the bad and frankly sadistic joke a sign that Locher has decided to end this arc? Of course given her role in the Butterfly McCorpse business, and in whatever scheme hubby had planned, she might find herself rooming in prison.
And did the Ministry of Truth decide that yesterdayâs strip never happened? Tomorrow, will it have not unhappened?
Thick has hit a new low in self-destructive stupidity. He should have handcuffed Penny for assaulting her husband. Instead, being thick, he makes a cruel joke at the expense of a distraught and violent woman. He had better hope she isnât packing a second gun.
What have we done to deserve such a fate
The quality of this strip is not even third rate
I would say today is as low as it gets
But I certainly wouldnât want to entertain any bets
Why on earth would you grab a man about the head
When his arm is still free to maybe shoot you dead
For her the nightmare is finally at an end
But ours will still be going, on that you can depend
Tracy is wrong if he thinks her home she will lose
A good defense team, cut a deal, her crimes they will excuse
And in the final panel there, a wonder to be seen
Tracy appears to be morphing into the Wolverine.
The crude joke is a typical sign that Locher is ending an arc, but we havenât seen the usual foreshadowing panels mixed in with the old arc. Maybe heâs shifting to a new phase of this abomination, where we finally learn what crime has been committed, or something. Whatever happens, Iâm sure it will remind us of Punjabâs crippled friend: itâll be a lame-asp thing.
Crimestoppers Textbook
If you forget to set your clock back for the end of Daylight Saving Time, Criminals will have AN EXTRA HOUR to rob your house!!!!
Iâm with Flight Suit. Words fail me here. New adjectives will have to be created to adequately describe Locherâs comic strip prowess since âincompetentâ, âmoronicâ, âfoolishâ, âgodawfulâ, â terribleâ, and ânonsensicalâ are just not up to the job.
The Locher Mess Monster has painted itself into a corner, so what can it do but knock a hole in the wall and call it a door? Are we now to discover that Penny and Sue Doko are the true villains, and the Feds never noticed their behind-the-scenes manipulation of Dâunderhead? âDidnât you foolish Washingtonians notice how the bank withdrawal was made after he vanished? Didnât you bother to check on who received his cell-phone calls from the street? Donât you realize the villain always has a mockable name? Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!â
Youâre welcome, Vista Bill, btmosley and Gweedo.
Hokey smoke, WW is right! Thatâs Wolverine alright, or my name isnât Barnabas Collins. Wait. What?
Yes, homeless. Goodnight, everybody! Hope you enjoyed our little play. Tell your friends!
And yes, I enjoy The Phantom, but if Kit canât recognize his own wife, heâs still a large idiot. In purple spandex and stripey undies, but an idiot none the less.
Yet another new definition for the word âhomeless.â It seems âhomelessâ can mean literally anything now. It is the new universal adjective.
Notice that readers who only get the Sunday strips donât know anything about Mrs. DâBuckworth brandishing that gun before 3D grabbed it, or about anything she said while brandishing. So as far as they know, Tracy pointing the fickle finger of fate at her now is an inexplicable plot discontinuity.
Of course, even those of us whoâve been following the dailies donât find it much more understandable. Why not handcuff 3DS now, before he grabs another gun from one of the swarm of undercover federal accountants and miscellaneous bureaucrats who are standing around brandishing badges (when theyâre not hiding in the sewer)? Why point the fickle finger of fate at a minor accomplice and ignore the real criminal?
CougarAllen, the Sunday-only readers are going to conclude the same thing about Thick that the rest of us have learned: heâs a schmuck and the strip is schlock.
This arc is going to drag out. Not because Locher wants to tie up loose ends or somehow make Thick look good, but because he wants to editorialize.
One other item to add to the list of annoyances in this strip: when was the last time it showed a character who wasnât white? Other than Sue Doko, this ârelevantâ strip is paler than a family reunion at Castle Dracula.
Starting tomorrow, by Dick LocherâŚ. âThe Return of the Wolfmanâ. Get ready, Simon! The next story will be âpants-wetting- scary!â The full moon is coming into phase and the dreaded and feared Wolfman (nee Thick Macy) will be matched by his Super-Ego, Mattie The Red Sweater! Get ready for some real rip-roaring action!
On the plus side, this comic strip now qualifies for Stimulus aid as a disaster area, and so we can maybe expect improvements in both scripting and art.
Hey btmosley - as far as Dick Locher qualifying for aid, remember how fast âFEMAâ responded to the victims of
âKatrinaâ.
With the word âHomelessâ used so much in this story,
I bet the final panel of this story will show Dorothy from
the Wizard of Oz, clicking her ruby slippers saying - âThere is no place like homeâ
Or would it be: âThereâs no hope for this stripâ
âThereâs no hope for this stripâ
Wolverine? Then maybe the rest of the X Men will show up, andâŚyeah, riiight.LOL. Gweedo hit the nail on the head though. WW can turn the bad into good verse. :)

For the last few months I have been marveling at the high quality of the writing on Lee Falkâs THE PHANTOM.
The current story is a classic example of how to do things right.
I have a great fondness for DICK TRACY (and the late, lamented ORPHAN ANNIE).
The people behind this series must be doing their best but their best falls short of the mark.
The strip deserves better.
Meanwhile, if you are not already tuned in, check out THE PHANTOM.
