Does anyone want to comment on Nora comment/wonderment/question that they won’t run out? Sounds as though someone’s family might be poorer than they seem if running out of food is a concern. Might we be looking at a story line here, like when they tackled racism?

A large growing family can go through a cart load of chow in one sitting. Especially active and hard working boys and young men. Now how are you dragging race into this?

My mother served tongue ONCE, just like that, a tongue on a plate. I couldn’t look at it much less eat it. I felt like I would be eating my own tongue.

We used to get cow’s tongue several times a year. The flavor wasn’t bad, but it was rather tough and stringy. Beef – It’s what’s for dinner.

RUN OUT is in bold type, implying it’s a play on words. They run out the door for the lengua, thus Tia Carmen’s scowl!

I could never eat something that’s been in an animal’s mouth! Just fry me an egg.

Diced Lingua tacos…served with a bit of cilantro, diced Onions and a spritz of lemon juice…. your favorite hot sauce and a little of the Caldo from the pot and add a chilled Pacifico and your back in Mazatlán on the beach……When we serve them at home nobody realizes they are eating Cows tongue. They go fast…..

Lengua, I’ll take any day. Casserole is the one I’m wary of. That, and quiches are usually just crap baked with cheese.

My culture also eats tongue, but as a cold cut. I ate it as a kid until I realized it was not just a name for the meat, but a description.
