One of the few things I miss about living in Florida is Spring Training. I lived less than an hourâs drive from my Red Soxs spring training camp in Ft. Meyers, the Rays in Pt. Charlotte, the Orioles and Reds in Sarasota, and the Pirates in Bradenton.
This is especially important for me, because Iâm not much of a football fan. I had to keep reminding myself to put a radio in my backpack for today so I can actually hear the game.
Well, beat the drum and hold the phone â the sun came out today!Weâre born again, thereâs new grass on the field.A-roundinâ third, and headed for home, itâs a brown-eyed handsome man;Anyone can understand the way I feel.
Chorus:Oh, put me in, Coach â Iâm ready to play today;Put me in, Coach â Iâm ready to play today;Look at me, I can be Centerfield.
Well, I spent some time in the Mudville Nine, watchinâ it from the bench; You know I took some lumps when the Mighty Casey struck out.So Say Hey Willie, tell Ty Cobb and Joe Dimaggio;Donât say âit ainât soâ, you know the time is now.
Chorus
Yeah! I got it, I got it!
Got a beat-up glove, a homemade bat, and brand-new pair of shoes; You know I think itâs time to give this game a ride.Just to hit the ball and touch âem all â a moment in the sun;(pop) Itâs gone and you can tell that one goodbye!
I can now stop hearing about how many days until spring training! And my husband will be keeping himself in his man cave and will not be under foot. So as much as I donât care for baseball, I guess I kinda like it.
Iâm afraid I lost interest in professional baseball after the last playersâ strike. Reggie Jackson, in an attempt to stir up fan support for the playersâ position in the dispute, stated that heâd had to sell two of his antique automobiles from his collection in order to make up for his lost income. So by and large, I gave up on professional sports. However, Iâm still a rabid follower of the Little League World Series every August. (Of course, in Little League baseball, even the pitcher has to take a turn at bat.)

Not that its spring. It would be nice if all sports seasons got cut by a third.
