Does Fay change color from panel 1 to panel 2?

I’ve a feeling this little play won’t work.

But, if Fay’s mother comes to the audition, then she will meet Axel and see how Fay reacts around him. Is this really a good idea?

Fay has the brains. She just needs to grow (those other two things). Lots of hope for Fay on stage if she works at it. First rule: Remember you are not you – you are somebody else – so what the hell – go for it!

Wow, I wonder if luann will use scripts to solve her own problems, like messy bedrooms……. And Quill!

Colorist, Faye is dark skinned! I think Faye needs practice where Luann dresses more like her mother than herself. It is easy to talk down to her “mother” when looking at Luann. Just put a dark wig and big eyeglasses and perhaps a cardigan. If you have time, slap on darker facial foundation.

The approach Fay and Luann came up with sounds good – and should be relatively non-threatening, from Mrs. Garcia’s standpoint. I hope it works. If not, it looks like Luann will be out of this particular job, since she hasn’t found an alternative play as directed (I know, easier said than done). But maybe, just maybe, Fay will have learned a tool that she may be able to hone and use in the future no matter what happens to Luann.

Scenes I’d like to see:

Axel – “Hello Mrs. Gracia, my name is Axel. I understand you have a “problem” with me?”

Mrs. Gracia – “Oh, uh , No, No problem! Uhhhh, So you’re Axel. Uhhhh please to met you!”

Axel – “Save it, Lady. So since you don’t Have a “problem” Fay can be in the play with me, right? Because if not, my mom is Commissioner of the Revenue for the town of Pitts, and she’s seriously considering jacking the property taxes up sky high in your neighborhood, Capiche?”

Mrs. Gracia – “Okay, FINE! WHATEVER! Fay can be in the Darned play!”

Fay – “Oh Goodie!

Mrs. Gracia – “Fay, you can be in the play. But pack your bag after it’s done, because we’re moving to 9 Chickweed Lane. A place where folks have some decency and sense!”

Sorry Fay this play is doom.

I believe Fay won’t be able to say any of it infront of her mum. She would just be mumbling some garbage…

Tbh what does her mother expect? That her daughter would never be around boys, or there would only be girls in the different shows?

I like this a lot and hope it works out for Fay.

Luann. no script or plan survives contact with the enemy. There is a difference between confidence and foolhardiness.

So Fay is hoping for a part playing Axel’s sister? If that happens she needs to control getting moon-eyed over him onstage, or she’ll make the subtext rather weird.

I think it will work. Fay’s issue involves a helicopter parent who is overly controlling her daughter; it’s not that she does not want her daughter to gain more confidence, rather the growing up and away from her control is what she has a problem with. Fay has to appeal to her mother’s confidence in her, as much as Fay needs to increase her own confidence. I am such an optimist I believe it will work.

Fay’s “chameleon-like” complexion change from Panel One to Three is easily explained.

Fay is trying out for the lead role in the Pitts Middle School rendition of “Zelig.”

I look forward to the scene where a Brown Shirted Fay recognizes Axel in the assembled crowd, and is waving joyiously whilest standing behind Hitler, who is being played by newcomer, Annabelle Eiffel.

I think this is the first morning (my morning – CDT) where I’ve checked the strip and there hasn’t already been over 100 comments.

I just hope there isn’t parental backlash.

I know they only have an hour – but Fay and Luann need to work up some additional (‘Plan B’, etc.) strategies, too! Don’t just give up after the first try, Fay!

Ftr, this is not how you role-play a confrontation. Luann shouldn’t be caving at Fay’s first argument; she’s supposed to roleplay Fay’s mom, and Fay’s mom would be getting emotional, making wild assumptions and pronouncements of doom, etc. Fay needs to practice dealing with that.

If this is all the practice Luann gives her, I don’t see it going well.

I come late to the party, but couldn’t let the debate about Fay’s superstructure pass by. The poor girl hasn’t even left the boat yard yet, give her a break. Just keep her away from too tight tee shirts.
