seeding for the playoffs would be the rankings during the regular season. The best 4 teams would get home court during the playoffs, then a best-of-4 finals.
Idea: precede the regular playoffs with the benchwarmer playoffs. All of the players with less than X number of minutes of regular season on court time would be eligible to play.
hers an idea take the teams that don’t make the playoffs and let them have a tournament to decide loser gets the number one pick overall. imagine how laughable that final would be
There’s a cartoon somewhere that shows the NBA season on tree rings. The start of the season is at the center and the end of the season is the tree bark.
I don’t see the joke here at all. Absolutely, cut the regular season down by 25%-30%, then begin to eliminate teams through 5-game series. When you’re down to four teams, switch to 7-game series.
(Single-elimination doesn’t work in basketball any more than it works in baseball, if your goal is to eliminate flukes and try to ensure that the best teams advance farthest; it doesn’t really work in football either, except it’s too grueling to play more than one game a week.)
Assuming it’s true, that is pathetic! The season is far too long as is, and it only eliminates a handful of teams from the playoffs. Putting everyone into a playoff system renders a “season” utterly meaningless. It becomes nothing more than a rec league.

He could set it up as a single loss tournament in March.

Someone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that what the regular season is for?
Just rename it preplayoffs and call it a day.

The NBA shortening their season ? What a blessing !
Actually, for me, it comes under the category of Who Cares ?, since I don’t follow NBA basketball.
I will occasionally, watch an NBA minor league game – NCAA colleg basketball – but I don’t go all Mad in March !

why have a regular season? Just call the whole thing a playoff and be done with it.
