I think I found Ken. âAnd they were offended at him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own ken, and in his own house.â (Mk 6:4). However, I donât see how this Ken is related to Abel.
All this talk of religious education gives me pause⌠Iâm an Indian and studied for a bit in a Convent run school. We were SOLD booklets with Biblical text and parables. None of us from mainly Hindu and Muslim families here had issues with that!Later in life, I managed to read through a full KJV of the Bible a couple of times as part of my Literature studies. So also the Holy Qurâan in translation.Nowadays in India, we seem to have hangups with studying each othersâ religious texts.
Some of the comments here remind me that some people take humor much too seriously. It also reminds me of Calvin & Hobbes, where Calvin is asked to do book reports and is given tests with questions like âwhat was the capital of Poland until 1600?â Surely that isnât what really goes on in 1st grade classrooms, is it? Well actually, yes, it is! That is at least in 1st grade classrooms which reside in the Calvin & Hobbes universe. And here in the Peanuts universe we have a kid who plays classical music on a toy piano and a dog who walks like a human, who sometimes fancies that he is a WWI ace, and who is best friends with a hockey playing yellow bird named Woodstock. Given all that, this Cain & Abel one-off joke seems a rather easy thing to simply accept as just being the way things are in the world of Peanuts.
I love Sallyâs schoolwork. âTwo times two is âtooty-twoââ âHere is my report on Columbus Day. Columbus Day was a great explorer. âI can give you three ships, Mr. Dayâ the Queen saidâ. Any mathematical issue that i canât come up with is automatically Tooty Two. What the last digit of Pi, Tooty Two.
Regarding yesterdays strip, I think snoopy was being an idiot. So he stops reading her books because she has cats? Thatâs just plain stupid! There are many authors whose opinions and tastes I donât agree with, yet I still enjoy their works.
Schulz was also drawing a single panel comic for a Lutheran youth publication at this time. Basically the Peanuts kids all grown up. The boys were all tall and lanky and the girls all flat-chested, so itâs not unusual for Sparky to have religion in this strip.

Now why would Barbieâs boyfriend murder Abel over a more humble animal sacrifice to God?

And why would a PUBLIC school be requiring Sally to do a report on Cain and Abel? Whatever happened to the separation of Church and State?

I guess if it was for Sunday school, she would have said âSunday schoolâ.

She needs to talk to Linus, he can quote it chapter and verse. And besides itâs a good excuse to talk to her sweet babboo!

Funny to look back at how we mispronounced names when we were small. For a while I was sure there was an ancient philosopher called Sockitty.

Did Cain understand that bashing Abel with a rock would kill him. If he didnât, that would be manslaughter instead of murder.
