I actually laughed at the strip todayā¦Note to Me. Jaimes once one of my schoolteachers once said to me when I got an āA..ā.Now that I know youāre capableā¦I expect more from you young man!
I came to check out this strip because I keep seeing it in the daily highlights, and I was surprised to see that it was actually witty and entertaining. Having dismissed this comic long ago as being just another saccharine, unfunny, nostalgia-fest that should have died in past decades, I was curious to see what changed. Unbeknownst to me, apparently there has been quite the controversy raging over this new artist.
Well, Iām just here to say that this new artist seems vastly superior by my millennial sensibilities. I never would have thought that Nancy, of all comics, would be a comic that I would start following, but the world can be unpredictable sometimes. Keep up the good work, Olivia Jaimes.
Compare todayās strip with Bushmillerās from Nancy Classics. In Bushmillerās, the gag is centered on a situation which could not/should not happen today (i.e. something which might have been ārelevantā when the comic was printed but wouldnāt be now). Pointing this out since a lot of people have been saying his strips are ātimelessā. I barely see any difference in the way Nancy is drawn, except now we have color. And the sight gag is just as apt. Iād really love for the haters to come up with some reasons why this comic is so horrid while that comic is superior. Canāt wait to see the answers.
I havenāt cared about current Nancy comics (many original run ones are surprisingly relateable or soft-hearted) for the 3 decades Iāve been alive, but Iāve been really into OJās current crop. Keep up your great work, Jaimes! Love to see your influence from current comic styles and not has-been newspaper embarrassments.
Made an account just so I could follow the new Nancy! I loved reading newspaper strips as a kid (Iām 26) and as I got older, moved into webcomics. Looking back into the archives and the classics, I must have been reading the Buschmiller strips back in the day because had I been reading the ones right before these Jaimesās strips, I never would have remembered them. Everyone looks like cabbage patch Archie and the dozen strips that I read felt very Family Circus. Glad to see someone with the sharp wit I remember at the helm, even if some of the older fans are perplexed by videogames and smartphones. I do wish the skin was a little less yellow/green toned, but Iāll it take over the creepy baby doll quality that came before it. Keep up the good work and the critics will even out.
Maybe a decade ago, this might have been the āmodernā equivalent ā I wonder what people will think of this particular artifact of 2018 in ten years?

Why is their skin color so yellow? Other than that the new art works well.

Decent job, with a more classical type of gag.

I laughed! More than I have at any Guy strip which involved Nancy & Sluggo liking Roy Rogers, like any kid below the age of 75 does.

Comic: funny. Art: still looks like skin disease.
