What’s the matter? Is this a joke for Sheldon?

I think the joke is a word play on ‘matter’. Quark gluon plasma is a theoretical form of matter. Even then, not very funny.

@Maxwelle and @MichaelJames42: Who is “Sheldon”? Is that a recurring character? I thought this was a gag-a-day comic, I didn’t know there were regular characters.

for me, the biggest reason by today’s trip isn’t funny is that this guy is obviously a biologist looking at a biological slide through a biological microscope. What he’s doing has nothing to do with particle physics, which is the basis for the pun. Therefore the drawing has nothing to do with the joke. That pretty well kills it for me.
