Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
I was concerned that every strip was going to be about new media, so itâs refreshing to see some good old Windows 95 computers in the classroom here.
@PAUL GUNDLACH: Actually, itâs not exactly refreshing. Itâs kind of a reflection on where some public schools are with respect to up to date technology. And there are plenty of school systems that have only a few computers that kids have to share (or none at all.) Here in Florida, where there is an intensive emphasis on year round testing that is done on computers, the computer classes themselves are often pushed aside so kids can take âpractice testsâ on the computers to get ready for the real thingâŠ
Except for the girl wearing green, all of the other kids, including Nancy and Sluggo, are left-handed. The mouse is on the left side of their keyboards.
Cute comic today! I wonder if Olivia has plans to have any of the other kids become regulars or semi-regulars in the comic?
Nancy is seeming to be quite the contrarian when it concerns education lately. Whereas Sluggo seems to simply be plugging along with the needed test. I am not sure if this is an actual role reversal or not, but I seem to recall that during the Bushmilller years, it was Sluggo who was more academically âsluggishâ and Nancy was more interested. I think having Nancy with more attitude does help in terms of comedic focus of the comic.
In regards to the teacherâŠ. I am really liking her character. Olivia is developing her well. I like the gentle firmness that she employs in the classroom. I hope she is a frequent character in the comic.
I wonder if this teacher âteaches to the test.â Thatâs where the teacher doesnât really teach regular class subjects; he or she teaches the students to learn what is expected on the test questions.

Those are some boxy monitors, if youâre talking about old stuff. (The mouse placement suggests itâs an all-in-one system.)

This is like something out of âCalvin and Hobbesâ or âHeart of the City.â

Ask the teacher if you can submit your answers by hanging chad.

Those look like some old Macintosh computers. Hope they donât mind waiting a few hours for the test to download from that 56K modem.

Just listen to the computer. It will tell you why you did what you did. It will tell you all you need to know.

Wow â thatâs a lot more than three of a particular item (computers in this case) for a Nancy strip! LOL

Is the last panel where the young woman pounds down the Leni Riefenstahl-ish aisle and hurls her hammer at Big Brotherâs projected image?
