I have to agree with George Clooney on this matter. Muscle cars have no place in todays world. I love them, love the sound of them and love the power they exude, but no one has a racetrack in their neighborhood where they can attain their maximum potential. 99.99999% of them will eventually go to their graves without ever even hitting the 150mph mark or higher. The only reason any of us would have to buy one is to look pretty (mostly in our minds) or successful or younger. It might get us a one night stand or two but the reality of who we really are always shows through. I once, many years ago, raced a Trooper from Oklahoma City to the Texas State line and got away with speeding in a Dodge Coronet Superbee and all I can think about that now is how stupid I was and how many lives I could have taken out as well as myself. They’re not worth the money or the potential for destruction and at their purchase price today mostly they’re driven by old white men trying to garner a smidgen of their youth back. Our money would be better spent on infrastructure and next gen public transportation. Well, it’s just my opinion.

@NRHAWK — You’re right about the unneeded performance in some of these cars today. I currently have a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, which is not really what I would call sporty, but it’s good on gas and can hold a ton of stuff for being so small. Of the cars I’ve had the one I had the most fun in was a ‘67 Triumph Spitfire, a little two seat roadster that probably topped out at around maybe a 100 if I really pushed it. But it sure was fun to throw through the curves. The two cars I would like to get if money was no object would be the Jag XKE, and the ’39 Cord Roadster. Hmmm, I think I’m dating myself there.

My fastest was 100 MPH in an early sixties Chevy on I-70 east of Denver. It was nighttime and nobody was on the road. Exciting? Yeas. Stupid? I admit yes to that question also.

Rented a car to drive from Phoenix to Tucson; didn’t make a specific request. To my surprise, I got a red Mustang. There are parts of that drive where there isn’t a speed limit. Of course I couldn’t get too crazy because those same parts also have gusting desert winds.

Never could understand why someone would want a YELLOW mustang.
