LOL I love it when kids are shown older tech and they don’t get it. I have three wind-up clocks that I still use, and though they are not as accurate as newer clocks, they are wonderful to have when the power fails.
Today’s comic was inspired by the Facebook meme wherein you are invited to be horrified that children (at school!) untrained in decoding analog clocks are uninterested in learning the system. Don’t pick it apart. Once you do anything except be horrified as you’re invited to do… the folks that spend time on Facebook turn cranky.
When my eldest daughter was about 12 (she’s 46 now) she asked me, “Dad, which way is clockwise?”
I got to thinking and realized that there wasn’t an analog clock anywhere in the house. I rectified that problem and it wasn’t long before my girl knew the difference between CW and CCW.
My family vacationed in Branson recently. Whenever we had to know if it was time to get ready for a show, everyone started digging for their phones. We finally learned that my 92 year old grandmother was the authority, because she actually had a little clock that she wore on her arm. What a neat idea, pity someone didn’t think of it sooner.
When I was 10 (about 60 years ago) my mother realized I didn’t know how to tell time. I didn’t need to! There was always an adult telling me what to do.
I have a watch with no numbers. My granddaughters have learned to read analog clocks, but the youngest looks at that watch and says I just make up the time!

Poor old Frank. Don’t even think of asking them to do multiplication or {gasp} long division.

Too bad the artist didn’t read the Roman numerals on a real clock. There is no IV or IX on them, they use IIII and VIIII instead.
