We have “JUMP” sound effects for Jumping Land, and “TWIRL” sound effects for Twirling Land; but for Backwards Land, Lynn Johnston gives us “HOP” sound effects. I would have loved to have seen “BACKWARDS” sound effects instead.
As for Skipping Land, it appears John skipped it. Sorry. Couldn’t resist that one.
There were ads on TV showing people saying stupid stuff that sounded insane. Then they did a wide shot to show the people were talking to their kids about things at their level. They were aimed at not being afraid to teach your kids stuff at their level no matter how stupid it looked.
I divided my front yard into these different “lands” and made my friends go from one end to the other, jumping, rolling, dancing and so on. I was the only one who knew which “land” they were landing on, but that didn’t seem to matter. We were all about 6, I guess, it was a sunny day and we didn’t have TV.
In Kindergarten when it’s was Dad’s and Donuts day I was the only father who did the Chicken Dance with my child. All the kids loved it and the other dads just glared at me. I never minded being silly with my boys.

I think it’s really sweet that John decided to play along with Elizabeth. That’s part of what being a dad is all about!

John has achieved ‘childhood joy regained.’ Some times hard to do but with the right ‘coach’, it can be done.

A daddy will do that for his daughter. He would tell his son to wash the lines off
