The kiwi used to be known as Chinese gooseberries and the Patagonian toothfish was renamed Chilean sea bass. There was even a push to start calling prunes dried plums. Marketing has been around a long time and people will pay more for something with a fancier name.
Ironically, modern conservatives love unregulated markets, but unregulated markets destroy traditions, family life, cultures, established norms – all the things conservatives claim they want to conserve.
And now they’re trying to end net neutrality, which is the closest thing to a real open market that there’s ever been.
Mayo? Last time my wife got that in a very fancy restaurant in South Texas she got food poisoning so bad she was in hospital for several days. Anything made with eggs, esp. in South Texas should never be left out on a counter
Mayonnaise has always been tasteless to me. For a long time, I preferred Miracle Whip. My wife hates that. She doesn’t like the sweet tang of it. Over the years, it now seems as if Miracle Whip is no more tasty than mayonnaise was. In the meantime, along came Ranch Dressing – a nothing taste if I ever knew it! I would rather eat my vegetables plain! Along comes diet Ranch Dressing – with even less flavor! But it’s “diet,” so that where my wife goes.
Kind of like “pasteurized processed cheese food,” which is only required to have 51% cheese in it. “Lite” or “diet” PPCF? Well, there goes the 51%!
And my wife wonders why I no longer get excited over food these days!
I suppose we all should be thankful for the two week delay in comics. Heaven forbid what Scott ’s ghost writer will come up with when the Kavanaugh hearings reach us.
If Brett is any indication, expect a return of Hunny Bunny!

But… the millennial who are killing mayonnaise are also DSA people who hate the free market.

There will always be a market for American “mayonnaise,” lousy that it is. On the other hand, a proper aioli. . .yum!

What’s in a name? A mayonnaise by any other name will still be as tasty on my sandwich.

Hey, what’s this comic? It looks kinda like Calvin and Hobbes.
