My folks closed the door at night to keep Yang out of the bedroom, but he could hear my stepfather wake up (even when he didn’t use the alarm clock) and would be waiting the instant the door opened.
Then he’d follow Ralph to the kitchen where Ralph would put one spoonful of food in his dish to shut him up just long enough to start the coffee. Once the pot was going, he’d put the rest of the can of food in the dish and they’d have breakfast together.
My mom couldn’t close any closet doors in the entire house or Jimmy her Persian cat would sit by it and meow non stop till she opened it. They all had to be left open, just a crack but open in case he wanted to check it out. Lol.
Wah, Wah Wah! I have a 75-pound American Staffordshire that sleeps with me and in the morning our 65-pound red-nose Pit joins us, gee how do they survive a kitten?
When I was a kid, Sylvester (black and white Maine coon) when he wanted out, either he would say the word itself “out”, or try to open the door (it was the kind where you fingers would be on the handle and the thumb would push down to open it) and he did several times.

I don’t like the way they draw the cat, hard to figure out what is what sometimes!

Easier to keep the door open at our house, otherwise they scratch and meow until we get up and let them in.

Heck with all that-I had a cat who could open doors. She would simply grab the knob (circular one) in both paws, and twist.

Better question: Why don’t we lock the door?

Our door is always open and the cat likes to sleep at my feet when it is cold.

The cat would stretch and occupy whatever it can.
