Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Itâs all relative on where you live. In upstate New York, âIt;s only 8 inches.â In North Carolina, â4 inches! Weâll be shut down for weeks!â
Living in Tennessee is great. One inch = one day out of school and/or off work and then the next day the snow is all gone and we can get back to life as usual.
Where I used to live in south Georgia, that âlotteryâ win would close the place down for a couple of days. Where we live now, northern Tennessee, I am hoping for a REAL lottery windfall of snow, at least once.
In Detroit, there was no such thing as a snow day. You just showed up or else. At Georgia Tech in Atlanta, it snowed maybe half an inch one day, and from my dorm room I could hear the tire chains clanking on I75. No snow here in Florida, but we do have hurricane days.
South Eastern Ontario. While a snow storm rarely shuts down the school, 1 inch will definitely shut down the bus leaving parents stuck getting their kids to school.
With apologies to Bill Torrey (the architect of the New York Islandersâ dynasty of the late 70s, who was talking about a five-minute overtime in the NHL), one inch of snow is like thirty seconds of sex: you could, but why bother?
I looks like more than that around his window. I agree, though. When youâre a kid in school, if itâs not gonna snow enough to close the schools, then it shouldnât snow at all!
We did have the buses âfreeze upâ years ago during bitter cold. I donât remember all the details, but this is what I recall: Someone convinced the school board to use biodiesel in the buses, but forgot to tell them to change the fuel filters if they made the switch. The cold caused the fuel to gel and clog the filters. Half the buses wouldnât start.
When I was in elementary school and junior high school, we had no snow days. When I was in high school, we got a new superintendent. Good thing, because then we had the Blizzard of â78 and they closed school for a week. They had to close it again that year because the barges couldnât get to the power plants with coal to generate electricity.

Hey, I won $39 once. That same day I got a ticket for being a day late to renew my motorcycleâs license, which cost me $39.

That happens a lot when someone gives me one of those scratch off cards! ($5 instead of 10 cents)

At my age, as long as I can use the leaf blower to get rid of the fluffy stuff, itâs like winning a grand. 8^)

Living in the deep south, an inch of snow shuts EVERYTHING down. No one knows how to drive on snow.

If you win ten cents in the lottery, do you have a net loss of 90 cents because you paid $1 for the ticket?

Down east here, snow is far fetched. But an inch of rain will ensure schools are shut.
hagarthehorrible over 6 years ago
There is nothing like you dress for school and get an sms that the school is closed for the day due to rain/snow.
