The funny thing about this story line reminds me of back around 1971 when I was in first grade. There was a student whose mother sent her son to school with short pants. I distinctly remember the teacher having called his mother to complain about his “improper dress” and that he was sent home to change into something more appropriate. Today, in my casual observation of children in these parts, they tend to go to school dressed in their PJs & slippers, in some cases. Likewise, also in some cases of high schoolers, they might wear something as one going to a nightclub. Mind you, not all children, but just a general observation.
I love Snoopy’s attitude through the whole thing. I think Schultz caught the essence of some of these big-time lawyers: more interesting in making a name for themselves than representing their clients. It isn’t a wonder that so many of them wind up in politics.
“Guilty” is not a proper legal concept in this context. This was an administrative hearing, not a criminal trial. There’s no criminal penalty attached to a violation of the school dress code, and there’s no presumption of innocence, either. The real legal issue is whether the school dress code is Constitutional, not whether Peppermint Patty was in violation of it.
My parents had to go talk to the principal because my mother sent me to school in a dress but with a snowsuit that had leggings when I was in the second grade. That was back in the 50’s.

Think kulaks: long, loose shorts, or a long dress for each leg.

Why faint or flip over the “GUILTY!”?

Well, even if they decide later to stop the dressing code, you still broke it while it was in function.

Of course! Who did not see that coming?

I wonder if Peppermint Patty could skort the issue.

Her guilt really wasn’t in question. I mean, she’s at school and clearly not wearing a dress.

So continue to defy the rules. I’m sure your lawyer can recommend a school.

So ummm…that means I can’t wear a loin cloth to school?

Heaven forbid that we’d have any type of dress code at school to prepare them for life in the “real world.”

I’m against dress codes. School uniforms are the answer.
