“It’s a Wonderful Life” is a tale about what is important in life, and how a downtrodden man can learn that his self-sacrifice (albeit unwillingly) made the world (limited to his hometown) a much nicer place for almost everyone in it. He learned to appreciate his life, his family, and his neighbours.
The only really selfish character is Mr. Potter (Lionel Barrymore in one of his best roles). Throughout the movie, everyone else only demonstrated how much they appreciated George. He just couldn’t see it. Even Sam Wainright invited George and Mary to join him in a get-rich venture that worked and on a driving trip to Florida. The point of the movie wasn’t everyone else’s selfishness, but George’s inability to appreciate what was happening around him because he was so focused on getting away.
White Christmas is a beautiful movie, but Charlie Brown Christmas tops them all because of the message. At this busy time of year, please don’t forget that JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON! Merry Christmas Y’all!
My favorite Christmas movie is “The Lion in Winter” (either version, but I prefer the Peter O’Toole/Katherine Hepburn to the Patrick Stewart/Glen Close). I know, I know, everyone says “Christmas movie?” But it is. Think about it. The family has gathered for the holiday. There is some sadness as the oldest son – heir to his father’s business (the kingdom of England in this case) has died recently. His younger brothers are juggling to be the next to be the heir to the business. Dad’s competitor (King of France) is visiting also – and he happens to be the son of mom’s ex-husband (from his third wife). He has an interest in who will next run the “company” also. He is also visiting with his half sister (from his dad’s second wife) who was suppose to marry one of the brothers. Dad and Mom don’t live together any longer – he keeps her locked in a castle. Sounds like a typical Christmas in many families to me – except of course that they have knives and swords and it is late 1100s!
Oh, and to answer a question asked elsewhere – they wrap their gifts in fabric and ribbon. I will also mention that historically it greatly lacking in complete truth, including that they have gifts.

I have never been able to watch Elf. I know a lot of people like it but for some reason I can’t stay focused on it.

Elf is one of my favorite Christmas movies that’s not animated.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” is a disgusting movie that celebrates mediocrity and surrender of dreams and ambition.

The Grinch and Charlie Brown are my favorites. A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott is also in my top 5.

Not too fond of Will Ferrell, though I did like “Elf” and “Stranger Than Fiction.” And I’ve always loved “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
