In many regards here, Joel is being a “Don Quixote”. He tries so valiantly to educate Rufus on the reality of the world, and tries to help him understand our world literally and metaphorically…. but to large extent it is wasted on Rufus. He will never learn.
I find it noble, though, that Joel always strives to do what is right and just.
