Ah what are we parents supposed to do? Sit quietly so our kids can pretend we’re not there yet and wait for them to finally acknowledge us hours later?

My eldest daughter used to make her father wait for her as far as possible from the party venue. She told me he used to wear his slippers when he fetched her. As if that wasn’t bad enough they were speckled with yellow spots where the pool acid had splashed on them. :)

Just the presence of a parent ruins a teenager’s evening.

Which is why we leave home. I am not thinking that is a bad thing.

My Dad would usually pick me up from school dances. He was super cool about it. When he dropped me off, he’d ask me what time he should be back and where he should park. That way, I’d know exactly when and where to look for him. If my Mom picked me up though, it was always mortifying. She’d get out of the car, come into the building to get me, and then harangue me in front of my friends about having to pick me up.

A guy in the neighborhood’s name was Ben, he was a junior as his father was Ben too. When his mother wanted him in, she would open her window and shout – BENJUN, BENJUN!!! Parents really like to embarrass their kids.

Michael looks constipated in the fourth panel. Martha is looking at him as if he needs some Ex-Lax.

Panel 2: “Only one thing could destroy this perfect evening.” Perfection by Michael standards means:

He got to be entertained by a drunken student.

Martha came to him and he did not go to her (twice).

Martha was physically aggressive with him (twice).

After spending time with him, Martha is apparently no longer spending time with her old girlfriends Megan and Janet, so she has ditched her friends for him as he wanted.

Martha confessed that she liked him more than Lawrence.

Gordon is there by his side and he is not talking or making a fool of himself

He got to talk to Darryl Smythe for a long time without Gordon or Brian or Lawrence being there, and that may be the first time this has happened in the entire course of the comic strip.

When you get right down to it, this really was a perfect evening for Michael.

It’s a mom thing

Martha is sooo cute.

I remember a guy in Reader’s Digest talking about his dad picking him up from school functions in his little car that resembled a clown car from the circus and wearing a Russian fur hat that looked more like a fur version of the hat the workers wore at McDonald’s. Took years to realize nobody was noticing how embarrassing his father was, because they were too busy being mortified by their own parents.

Michael should say, “Ah, the chauffeur has arrived.”

That’s funny!

In our case, we lived walking distance from school, so that our kids would walk home or take the bus on rainy days. We never had to pick them up.

Sure she had to honk and holler.

At least we got a week’s worth of Elly-free strips.

Lol, I would hope I won’t embarrass my kids in the future. Who am I kidding, of course I will :D
