I remember when somebody got the idea in the late 70s to put a disco beat behind Gregorian chant and some classical pieces. The Gregorian chant idea did not go down well in our local disco.
I don’t often run into classical music snobs, but when I do, I like to purposefully mispronounce composers’ name. For example, pronouncing “Mozart” with a “z” sound instead of the “ts” sound. Or pronouncing “Chopin” so that it sounds like "choppin’ " as in “choppin’ down the tree”. Many other examples. I don’t care if it makes me appear to be a boorish hick. I just enjoy seeing the snob’s head explode.
I remember back in 1976 when Mom and I were listening to “All By Myself” by Eric Carmen. Mom told me that song was written way back in the 1920’s. I didn’t understand, since the lyrics were 100% 1970’s. Then I found out it was based on something composed by Rachmaninoff.

This was long before rock artists set their songs to classical pieces.

What would Shroeder think of the song “A Fifth of Beethoven” by Walter Murphy?!

I always liked rock mixed with classical elements, such as done by Jeff Lynne and ELO.
