The players should get a salary, considering the coaches get millions every year. The coaches are technically full professors at the schools, while the real professors, who do actual work get at most 10% of what the majority of Division 1 coaches make!
Pay the players, but don’t make them go to class unless they want to get an education. The ones going pro, as if they weren’t already, don’t need an education. I wish there were a sarcasm font.
College athletes are not UNPAID! Tuition, books ( well at least they can resell them), room and board, and other perks can be worth more than what a young college professor makes. Few institutions actually make money off the athletic programs as football and basketball ends up paying for all the other sport programs. Now we have players refusing to play in bowl games. They should be forced to repay their scholarship money. Bottom line, IMO, is that the money has all but ruined college sports, especially when considering that coaches can be making 10-20 times the president of the institution and up to 100 times the salary of professors.
Players with no interest in earning a college degree should do what Brandon Jennings did after high school: Play a year overseas, make some money, see the world and THEN apply for the NBA draft. Why pretend to be a student when you can start making a living as a basketball player earning six or seven figures in Italy? Jennings was a lottery pick, too, so it’s not like the scouts lost track of him.

I wonder how many players, college and pros, got concussions and are now living on the streets.

March Madness is but one month per year. Trump Madness is twelve months per year.
