I remember visiting one of these arenas. The tour guide said there was disagreement among experts as to whether the winner or the loser was the team to be beheaded. The theory was that it was a great honor to give one’s life, to give their blood to the soil in order to ensure a good crop. The tour guide thought that was a weak theory because everyone would want to lose.
Let’s hear it for the Indigenous Peoples. BTW—-the Peoples need a different name, this sounds like a cross between ignorant and indolent. “Hey, yer indigenous and so’s yer old lady”.

Maybe not at historic reenactments, but are there any Mexicans who play that ancestral game of theirs either recreationally or professionally?

I imagine the Maya ate elotes and chile, but I don’t think they had crema or queso.

I see the Eagles are down to their last time out, which is bad news when they’re playing the self-proclaimed Greatest Of All Time.
