I always thought it would be a funny plot twist in “Star Trek” or another of the SF shows to have a ship nearing a star and call the star something like “Mabel O’Connor” or something made up, and Spock have to explain that, back in the 21st century, some company charged people to have a star named after them, and that’s why the people on this planet are the inhabitants of “Mabel O’Connor IV.”
In some of Larry Niven’s books, they named features after the first words said when it was encountered. One planet was “We Made It”, and there was “Mt. Lookatthat”.

Farout — real name 2018 VG18 is 34 AU from the Sun. Farout is spherical, has a diameter of about 500-600 km, and It’s pink.
