To be fair, the KBO that the New Horizons probe just past is called “Ultima Thule” .

I don’t care…. just tell me if there’s ever one called “SoCloseOMGRun4YourLife!”

Hey, he’s just about qualified to Head NASA under the current “administration”. They LOVE “Bright, Shiny Things” to deflect the goober’s attention…

I always thought it would be a funny plot twist in “Star Trek” or another of the SF shows to have a ship nearing a star and call the star something like “Mabel O’Connor” or something made up, and Spock have to explain that, back in the 21st century, some company charged people to have a star named after them, and that’s why the people on this planet are the inhabitants of “Mabel O’Connor IV.”

Farout — real name 2018 VG18 is 34 AU from the Sun. Farout is spherical, has a diameter of about 500-600 km, and It’s pink.

In some of Larry Niven’s books, they named features after the first words said when it was encountered. One planet was “We Made It”, and there was “Mt. Lookatthat”.

“Is that Farout?”

“No, that’s Whiteout, I had a little accident earlier…”

Better than “pretty star…”

Far out, Dude.

They should build a station there so they can call it Farout Station.

So that’s how “Farpoint Station” got its name.
