I was born in 1950 so I lived through those times but I really do not remember commercials being this bad. Probably the most interesting thing about commercials back thne is that they were almost all one minute. The 15 or 30 second spot had not been thought of back then.
Brylcreem is still around. My husband alternates between that & Vitalis. However he uses the Crest toothpaste in those little bottles, so no chance of using the wrong item.
Around 1961 I was rushing to get off to the school bus and grabbed the brylcreem to comb my hair. Then I scrambled to wash the toothpaste out of my hair! The tubes had the same colour schemes.
You’re a Plugger if you remember the schoolboy spoof of the Pepsodent song! “You wonder where your teeth all wentWhen you brush your teeth with fresh cement!”
The “wet head is dead” campaign was still current when I came across a log, barely floating. “The deadhead is wet”, I thought, and laughed out loud, all alone in English Bay in my kayak.

I’m not sure which would be worse, Brylcreem or Preparation H.

I was a Vitalis guy – no danger of toothpaste confusion.

Vitalis used to come in a tube too. I never missed it for the tooth paste but my mother-in-law-did.
