Reminds me of whenever I see a metal cased skill saw or or metal cased drill with a worn cord at the Goodwill store,I always tell my friend that it’s an electrocution waiting to happen !
I have always done the laundry, dishes, vacuuming (when I had carpets), sweeping and washing the floors, even dusting butI draw the line at ironing !
It’s not that my mother didn’t teach me, and it’s not that I can’t. I just won’t. I hate ironing. If it ain’t wash n’ wear, I won’t buy it.
My husband did all his own ironing before we married. A week after the wedding, I set up the board and put one of his shirts on it. “What are you doing?” he said. “Ironing your shirt”. “I’ll do it”, he said. “No, no, that’s my job”, said I, full of just married bliss. Guess what – he never offered again!
Just imagine if this were Earl and a friend talking about Opal mowing the lawn, unclogging sewer lines, changing the oil or a flat tire, or some other stereotypical “male” job. There would be a great hue and cry about how sexist the strip was, so why this double standard?
The worst thing that happened in my life is when my dad no longer worked at the laundry and sold his part ownership, along with the ohter owners. We got our own washer and dryer and that wasn’t bad but I HAD TO IRON….I HATED IRONING, I WAS TERRIBLE AT IT…plus I hated the ironing board itself so I did mine on my bed instead. I was so glad when polyester came out and it could go in the wash and dryer and come out wrinkle free. Only bad thing was if it got hit by a cigarette when you smoked with the windows open. Not good. Happened a couple times and then I just made sure I didn’t smoke when I wore one in the car. Now being retired I don’t have to iron anymore as all the dresses and skirst I have don’t need it PTL. Suits are dry cleaned so that is also taken care of LOL

Why do you let Earl drive the car ? More danger driving …

First of all; you should never make your spouse do anything. Requests are the best policy.

That is a situation they have to iron out between them!

If you use power tools, I figure you probably know how to repair them. My theory is that Earl is a wise man pleading ignorance on purpose.

Pearl…..we’re talking about Earl here…why would you even entertain the notion?
DiminishedFirst about 6 years ago
Why is no one considering that Pearl actually wants Earl dead? Or at least injured?

Husband says he knows how to iron—-he’s been watching me do it for years. But when I’m out of town, he takes his shirts to the laundry!

Thank God my wife doesn’t mind ironing.

Earl would leave the hot iron on one of Opal’s blouses for 10 seconds and that would be the end of his ironing career.

I’m curious what Earl did for a living before he retired.
eladee AKA Wally about 6 years ago
At least that’s what Earl WANTS them to think. As long as they do no ironing for him!!

Let me re-phrase that: “When you are mad at Early, why don’t…”

Where’s the cord?

I think this would actually be funny if, in the fourth panel, Pearl says “Oh, right! Right! Shall I go get Earl?”

My wife can’t iron worth a damn. I have been ironing dress clothes and uniforms since I was 13. She asks me to do it. And I gladly do.
I also do our sewing by hand.
