At least she doesn’t have to sit on a huge rubber ball, as I’ve seen some office staff doing in the past. No it wasn’t a tech company, it was the constituency office of my MP.
OMG – they just completed a total office makeover where I work, reduced our prison cubes in size by 20% but gave us all motor driven standing desks. Every time I see people standing up to work I want to throw a paper plane at them.
I don’t think standing is any better for you than sitting. The problem isn’t positional, it’s being static. It’s better to alternate standing a while with sitting a while, or just take walking breaks throughout the day (I let my bladder dictate the breaks :-)).
My office bought one of those “chairs” with no back, and pads for your backside and knees. I tried using it, and it was helpful for my weak back, but it was murder on my knees!
My messed-up back would be killing me after an hour at one of those standing desks. I have to lean back in my chair to take some of the pressure off a crushed disc just above my pelvis so my toes don’t go numb.
I like having an adjustable desk. On days like today when the weather is bad, I can get a little exercise by raising the computer and standing for half an hour or so.
I recently saw a video about standing desks, by an M.D. researcher. He said the evidence that standing desks are better than sitting desks is lacking.
He said sitting desks are not bad because of sitting. They are bad because the user doesn’t move much. People at standing desks tend to make the same mistake. When they use standing desks without moving, its as damaging to their health as sitting desks.
Went through that fad a couple of years ago. I cannot remember the last time I heard the whirr of a table lift motor. The point was to vary the height from sitting to standing throughout the day. Nobody figured that out. They worked for a couple of hours standing, got tired, then never stood up at the desk again. Such a waste.

Even Brewster’s chair on the bridge has been replaced with the “Captain’s X on the floor”.

Due to a recurring tailbone injury back in 1979, I can’t use these standing desks.

I hate to be a “Sheldon” but we just ordered a standing desk. You do NOT save money on chairs, they (desks) are ridiculously priced!

As a industrial design student studying human factors, one should not stand or sit for long periods. Hence the sit/stand computer work station.

That was why Freedonia’s Secretary of War, Chicolini, favored a standing army. (Duck Soup, 1933)
