Our St Bernard doesn’t bark much, but she barks loud
She’s very protective of our grandkids, if she thinks the way we’re playing with them looks dangerous the neighbors several houses away can probably hear her telling us to settle it down
The English Setter we had barked at everything. I watched her sit on the patio and move her head from side to side and up and down, barking all the time. We think she was barking at falling leaves.
When I was a kid, the (large) dogs along my way to school would run along the fence and bark loudly at me. I was pretty sure they wanted to eat me. One day, the neighbor’s dog got out and actually did take a bite. Please, train your dogs so they don’t bark excessively or else keep them far enough from the sidewalk that they can’t terrorize pedestrians.
Once I saw a squirrel harassing a cat who was just lounging around near its tree. It was so preoccupied I got really close. It had to come out of its trance to be bothered by me. It was a sight to see. The cat was all but ignoring the agitated squirrel.

this is why I’d never get a (small) dog. Insufferable!

Labs are talkative too. I do a pretty good Lab, and learned some Goldie when we had Jean-Luc, he was half Goldie-half Lab. (Snigger)

Yeah, them’s twitchy squirrels is the most dangerousest of them’s all. It’s best to approach thems with cautions.

So to sum it up, Sophie barks at anything that can’t get to her, but draws the line at a twitchy squirrel that could be on her side of the fence.
