And then people wonder why there aren’t more females in STEM careers – confusing emotion with fact in the mundane things doesn’t bode well for critical thinking skills in the important ones.
I spent most of my life trying to look older. I looked much younger than I was – partially because I was short.
My family was at a family wedding. I was legal age to drink. My sister is 5 years younger than me and asked me to get her a drink – I knew my parents would not mind and would have done it for her, so I went to the bar. Even with my license they would not give me a drink. My sister (remember she is 5 years younger and not legal) walked over and they handed her a drink no question.
Same sister, both of us older and married. We went to an X rated movie with our husbands. (Had to be close to 30 at this point.) They let them all in and asked me for proof of age!
When I was in my 50s I was talking to a casual friend at club meeting and mentioned we had an anniversary coming. She asked how long we had been married and I told that we were married close to 30 years – her next comment was that we must have married very young – I told her that we married late in our 20s. She was shocked as she thought I was in my early 40s.
Well, I finally reached the point where I look my age and I am not complaining. I can ask for a senior discount and get it with no questioning from anyone. :-)
