In my house you did NOT want to get my mother mad. She had the shrillest voice in the world. I’d have rather had a spanking any time than have to listen to her holler at me.
Medieval parents sent their adolescent kids to other families to be servants/apprentices and get them out of the house a couple of years. I’ve often seen the appeal.
I wonder what Kaboom looks like in real life? At least in that house hold. Besides, if someone, kid or not, is in a foul mood and you explode on them their mood is not likely to improve.
Teenagers who are not corrected will carry this same attitude on into adulthood. This is why it’s so important to start when they are young correcting them.
You have to admit that Mike’s act is going a bit too far. The secret is to push, but don’t pass that fine line. Better learn where that line is fast! We practice this technique on our parents. And when it is perfected, use it on our spouses. ; )
I read everyone’s comment and some were very good sound advice. I don’t believe beating a child is acceptable. We must find a better way to let them know that bad behavior is also not acceptable.
Growing up, my son could always tell when mom was on the verge of a “ka-boom” and back off. My poor daughter never seemed to see it coming until disaster hit.
As bad as Michael is, just wait until Elizabeth hits her teen years. This will be happen every month, in addition to Elizabeth shouting “I got to wear WHAT?!”

Lynn’s Comments:
This strip brought appreciative mail from moms and dads who unloaded their own “KABOOM” moments. I always felt vindicated when I knew I wasn’t alone.

My own: I remember being both the teen and the parent. Didn’t fully appreciate what I put my parents through until I had the experience myself. Karma.
