Actually, that’s true. The constellations that we know would only be visible in our own solar system. The constellations that would exist on Alpha Centauri, for example, would be completely different. But it’s impossible to see Libra at the same time as Orion on Earth, because they’re on opposite sides of the cosmos with our solar system between them.
Well, we haven’t recast the constellations since Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille in 1763 – we’re well overdue for seeing the constellation “Apple” or “Beyoncé”.
Let’s get on it, IAU! You’re leaving money on the table.

And the constellations we see have had different names on Earth depending on the culture.

I’m one of those that can never recognize constellations (except the big dipper) no matter how often I look at the pictures.

I’m surprised we don’t have the constellations Pepsi, Coke, McDonald’s or even the AT&T star cluster. We have ad placement everywhere else?

Point taken. Ancient astronomers gave everything names, now they are given numbers.

That one looks like a nice juicy Corned Beef.
And over there is the "Croissant:.
That next one is the Chocolate Eclair, just to the left of the Cannoli.
Best of all, the “Napoleon” with Boston Creme filling.
