A big ALEX written across the front of her shirt might help. Teachers surprisingly often forget the names of the quiet ones. The ones they have to keep telling to shut up, sit down, stop that, they remember — and they are usually boys.
It’s the same as dating a guy who is shorter than you. It’s just not the way society has decided that things are supposed to be. Girls were supposed to be less intelligent than guys, and guys were supposed to make the decisions and take care of the poor little things. How such smart fellas never figured out that they were going to be stuck with kids who inherited half of their intelligence genes from that moron never seemed to enter the equation.
At least they let her stay in the room. I spent all of second grade staring at a brick wall in the hallway because the teacher decided I was a “disruptive influence” for being able to know all the answers despite staring out the window most of the time. By third grade I could read a Reader’s Digest magazine cover to cover. RD was the bulk of my education, sadly enough.
I spent most of my school years reorganizing the room, reading books 4-5 years above my grade level, generally keeping myself busy. Problem was that when I came to kindergarten reading on third grade level, they assumed that I already knew everything, and as long as I didn’t bother the teacher, she didn’t bother me. Problem being that I was in junior high when I learned to tell time— nobody told me there was something called “arithmetic” happening while I was on chapter 12.
However, when I became a teacher myself, I plead guilty to usually calling on boys. It’s an attention getting device, and girls at least appear to be with you more than boys do.
Studies have shown that boys are called on way more than girls in a mixed classroom. There’s no evidence that teachers do it purposely, but they still do it.

That’s not the kind of “girl’s education” you need to be most worried about these days.

Well, gee, wouldn’t want that “girl” so show up the boys, would we? Just pretend she’s not even there.

you learn very early that boys are more valuable – later, that if you want a boyfriend – don’t intimidate by being smart, as=smart, or smarter

So much for posting a sarcastic comment.

Hey GoComics, why did you delete my original comment? It seemed pretty innocuous:
The teacher knows one of the boys probably has the right answer.

We are fast turning into the “Demolition Man” society of the future, and it scares the s#!+ out of me.

As a retired teacher, I can tell you that this is bunk. If anything, it was the opposite.

The Worst part is that the Teacher is 90% likely to be a Woman.
