The first 8 were expended trying to figure out how to harness the power of the Old Ones. Number 9 is going to be used for gloating. And gloating is FUN.
Perfect depiction of what goes in our our house. After 4 years together, our dog knows the cat won’t play but sometimes the dog is feeling her oats and is sure she can lure her housemate into some fun.
I miss the sound of my late Shep/Lab mix and nearly 17 pound Tabby cat would make when they played chase, in the hallway. No one ever won the game, as they always took turns being, it!
My son & DiL’s cat has played chase, since he was a tiny kitten (both as chaser and chased) with their mini poodle. At first, the poodle had some advantage when they made contact; this went away as the weight differential lessened. Now, besides playing chase, the cat will also stalk the dog and leap from hiding to take him down.

Keep trying Sophie. See if you can distract them from world domination or interdimensional exploration for a while.

One of my cats and the poodle play together; the other cat watches disdainfully.

We had a cat that was raised with dogs and thought it was a dog.

Some cats love to play with the dog. Some chase the dog. Some dogs chase the cat. But it is always interesting.

Cats’ lives are so boring, it just feels like nine to them.

The cat is “playing with him”. It just looks different because cats are more into mind games. :)
