I thought the torture device fitted to musicians was the bagpipes.

who’d want to go on a peaceful vacation to Nepal right at the same time as the ten-day profanity festival?

The Cursing Festival sounds like fun, but Holi is even better.

If the shame flute didn’t work…they’d give him a stick and make him a conductor…

Not being American I didn’t realise, until recently, that Ripley’s was such a long-standing institution; over 100 years old!

From the visible fumes, I’d guess he didn’t bathe, either.

Cursing festivals may have some similarities to politics. We are currently in election mode for later this month and I can definitely see this on a daily basis. How did that Buffalo Springfield song go? Ah, yes “Nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong”

The shame flute should still be used today, it would change today’s so-called “Music” industry

I guess that’s interesting…..But I’m more impressed by St. Anthony, who lived in a cell that was too narrow to lay down in and too short to stand up fully. Or St. Symeon the Stylite, who lived 37 years at the top of a pillar.

Then there are the Hindus that vow to their God and keep their arm raised for years. I thought ti was just one and I went to look up his name, but it turns out it started with him and now there are a number of them that do that. After a few years, they can’t even lower their arm if they wanted to due to the atrophy.

I did my entire high school band career playing shame flute. Boy I hated band!!! Needless to say, I was forced into it by parents. Parents often have a wicked sense of humor and a well-developed form of socially acceptable torture.

Had to check out the flute. It was indeed a medieval torture device also called the Flute of Shame.
