My Bernese Mountain dogs would always just roll over to the side and smile as the child rolled slowly to the floor. I never placed on child on top but they’d see it as another obstacle to climb. Neither dog nor child were hurt but I kept watch. I wouldn’t have allowed other children to do it though.
When I was about nine years old, I was playing in the sandpit with the boy next door. It reminded me of being at the beach. When the neighbour’s dog came towards us, I said “Dog rides are better than donkey rides anyday,” and went to sit on the dog’s back. Luckily, my friend’s dad told me that I was too big to ride the dog so I didn’t sit down.

When did Fred get to be bigger than a St. Bernard or a Great Dane?

One of my greyhounds had been placed with two families prior, both with small kids. A 40 kg greyhound can knock a kid over just by leaning on them.

Fred, you’re not a pony! I’m surprised at Mrs. Dear.

My first cat would let our infant nephew use her as a pillow. It was sooo cute :) I never left them alone though

Maybe Alex Graham was showing someone holding up their son so he wouldn’t hurt Fred. I would hope so.
