Looks like Tracy and Pat have Officer Hart’s killer cornered, but he seems prepared to fight back. He won’t be taken into custody calmly.
I have added Amazon Kindle format (mobi) for Jim Doherty’s two stories to my site, because that is the format I actually prefer for reading on my phone. You’ll find all three formats on the page I cited before:
While it is interesting to see Dick Tracy back in his uniform street cop, pre “Wrist Wizard” days, this minit mystery, is really dragging, So far the ONLY clue per say has been the bereaved using the pepper spray to cook with.
BTW just to be picky, Tracy should have been toting a revolver in those days not an automatic
It seems strange for Tracy to actually tell Mr. Hart that they’re about to make an arrest. Surely that’s not standard police procedure? Does he, like most of us here, suspect him, and tries to provoke him into doing something rash? Was the “sixth sense” actually Hart hurriedly making a phone call to warn the killer?
Yeah, Weegel, I know that you’re asking if we’re sure that Mr. Hart had anything to do with it. I choose to believe so, anyway. :-)
Fellow Tracy Readers: I’m relatively new to the series. Would someone explain the Minit Mystery concept? It’s already lasted longer than I expected it would. I prefer the format that just wrapped up involving a drawn out story with a suspect and an eventual solution (e.g. the Barnaby story).
The actual book for which “Culhane’s & Black’s” THE BIG BOY AND THE DETECTIVE is a fictional counterpart, SCARFACE AND THE UNTOUCHABLE by Max Allan Collins and A. Brad Schwartz, has been named a recipient of the “Best of Illinois History Award” by the IL State Historical Society.
At the same time, Al himself has mentioned this storyline on his ’blog, FOMAC, which you can find here:
http://www.maxallancollins.com/blog/
Scroll down several paragraphs and he mentions his and Brad’s cameo appearance, along with linking to a review of the storyline at THE DAILY CARTOONIST.
And in reply to Jim D’s reply to my comment yesterday, (& thanks for taking the time, btw), I have no idea what he meant by “original story,” only that the “story” being told now a) is drowning in exposition, b) has absolutely no narrative momentum whatsoever, & c) at times seems like a platform for the writer to express his own political views. Respectfully submitted.
Looks to me as though Lucian was trying to make a getaway just as Tracy’s car, with Sam’s just behind, rolls up and Tracy, gun drawn (pun?), leaps out. Rev also has his gun in hand, though he is not squared away to get off a clean shot while Tracy is (this is pretty much how it goes with our detective).
As for any final twist, I, too (like Yngvar above), suspect that Mr. Hart is not so innocent in this matter….

Yesterday Tracy was at the restaurant after the funeral. Now he’s back at Hart’s home?

@another take: Think Bizarro world. These guys make it up as they go along. This one’s way, way, way off the hook.

If Lucien had such a “sixth sense” for danger, wouldn’t he have headed out the back door before the cops got there?

I see Tracy is being shown with a .45 automatic when he should be carrying a .38 Special based on what Gould used to draw.
