Wonders me where their paper is printed. I’ve only ever seen these two characters work for the paper.

For once, the senator has a good point. My paper kept raising the rates till I couldn’t see the advantage of keeping it. I could get the whole thing on their website. And I could get these comics and theirs for free, with some pop ups.

In a last ditch bid to keep me as a subscriber, they reduced the rate from almost $300 a year to $74. Had they kept the rate down in the first place, I wouldn’t have left their paper.

Equivocation on the word “free” is the root of a lot of confusion in English speaking politics. You could qualify the word, “free as in beer” or “free as in freedom”. Or you could borrow from Spanish (and other latin languages) and say “gratis” or “libre”.

So many things are gratis, but far from libre. And as the American founders remind us, libre is not gratis: “freedom is not free”. Gratis services from google sacrifice your privacy. So many do not realize that the strident calls for gratis healthcare also eliminate libre healthcare. Gratis education sacrifices libre education.

Free speech, free press … overrated?

Free tacos and margaritas? Much better.

What’s that. Oh yes, my older brother used to deliver something called that, c. 1953. Now, news links on my webpage to the Milwaukee Journal actually ask me to subscribe before they will provide access. What a bunch of blockheads!

You never see these reporters trying to meet a deadline. There must be plenty of humor in that.

We used to have a local Free Press with investigative reports on local corruption. With the need for ad money to run the presses it degenerated into a chamber of commerce rag.

A free press must also be a truthful press.

Typical politician, always trying to put journalists outta business. BTW, freedom of speech is not free. Arlington National Cemetery is but one site filled with those who’ve paid the dearest price.
