Ah, the return of Walther Pidgeon. And, unhappily, the return of what passes for dialog in DT. It’s amazing how quickly the chains vanished from Thick’s head when he pulled the gun.
Dick not only had a gun, but remembered he had a gun? The last time we saw Dick pull a gun, wasn’t he wildly firing shots into his own neighborhood because somebody threw a rock through his window?
Little Mordy has nothing to lose
So why, surrender would he choose
He’s got the chains around Dickies neck
He should go for it, I mean what the heck
But, here’s something he wants you to believe
He has something up his sleeve
Given the lateness of the date
He better hurry before it’s too late
What chicanery can it be
How much longer till we see
Even though Thick has a gun
More silliness is still to come.
Thanks to all for your comments the other day.
@ Flight Suit, I have more than 100 pages of Tracy poems and parodies. I have got to get a life.
When you look at panel #1, there’s just no way that can be Morbid’s left hand holding the chain. That has to be Thick’s right hand. And where’s the panel where we see Thick draw his gun, chamber a round and tell Morass to stop? I’m pretty sure that if someone was strangling me with a chain I wouldn’t question his intelligence before I told him to back off. And under the circumstances “slowly” is the last adverb I’d put in the sentence.
A lead lunch? That does not sound healthy. In fact, I question whether lead is even part of the food pyramid. Tracy should really consult with a qualified nutritionist before making such dietary recommendations.
Since that looks very vaguely like a Colt M1911 Our Hero is packing, I sincerely hope that Thick actually decides to pull the hammer back on that gun at some point; otherwise, it ain’t gonna go bang when you pull the trigger.
Presumably, Facey could (word meaning rooster which got bleeped) the gun with his sixth finger, but I ramble.
Hey, WW is back! Not much material to work with lately. I don’t know how you do it; I wouldn’t be able to do one.
Why was Thick even struggling with his hands against the chains if he’s reaching for his gun? And the chains wrapped around his head have disappeared between him and Toady Goes A’Courting after the gun is drawn?
I hate to say it but in panel 2, that is likely the best DT hand Locher has done lately and just with a proper outline (of 5 fingers this time) and some shading. It actually looks like a hand this time. Gasp.
BillThompson you’re right about the hand on the chain. Nice catch. Where is Toady’s left hand though? Panel 2 shows it free and it’s awful hard to strangle somebody with only one paw pulling on the chain.
M.M.Marmel, Locher has an out with the 1911; there are a bunch of “knock-offs” of the famous M1911, and several are double action. So Thick possibly could fire it without the hammer being cocked.
Dr. Midnight, I am a collector and can tell you this: there’s a yes/no answer to your question. The problem is possibly moisture gets into the cartridge (“keep your powder dry”) and it may not fire. Sporting or target ammunition is not waterproof. Police use military grade ammo (Lawman brand, for example) and it is specified waterproof. If mud got into the works of the gun, it might stick, but from the storyline, that is improbable.

Y’know, this’ll all end and we’ll never find out what Mordred ever did.

Go ahead Dick and give him the lead lunch. Save your tax payers some money.

WW–Your poems have more dialog than this strip.

You know, I almost wanted to see Mordred free us from Tracy. Now I’ve lost interest.

I certainly agree that if anyone writes a history of Dick Tracy, WW’s poems should be included somehow. Great work, WW!

tsouthworth, I think Morbid’s left hand is yanking something other than Thick’s chain. Details are of interest only to Locher.

How come only cops get to carry guns to protect themselves from bad guys?
MisngNOLA about 14 years ago
Man, even Tracy’s ammo must come from China. Everything they send here is full of lead.

mrbribery: About five months ago, they told us Mordred was a mass murderer. Or was it eight months… I forget.
tcayer: You seem to know a bit about guns, so maybe you can tell me: would the fact that Tracy’s gun has been submerged in water cause any problems?

I tell you what wndrwrthg, any Publising House would laugh out loud if asked to consirer REPRINTING Locher’s recent Dick Tracy work.
But were it published concurrently, side by side, with your ’enligtening’ verse … different story !
Together, it may rocket up to # one at Amazon. check TMS next year, you might get the rights for a few Jimmy Carter peanuts.

Here is the condition new writer Mike Curtis may find when he checks out Dick Tracy at TMS
If nothing else, Dick Locher can indirectly poke fun at his OWN frailities and realities …

Morrow,
M1911 knock off is the M1911A1 which was standard military officer and MP issue until 1980 when under pressure from NATO, the US adopted the M9.
