Reminds me of an exchange on an old Mork and Mindy episode. Mindy was talking to an old friend (forgot her name), who was a real neo-hippy space cadet. I don’t remember the exact verbiage, but it went something like this:
Mindy: Would you like some coffee?
Space Cadet: No thanks, coffee has caffeine.
Mindy: Herbal tea?
Space Cadet: No, tea has tannins.
Mindy: How about a cola?
Space Cadet: Colas have artificial sweeteners.
Mindy: Water??
Space Cadet: No, water is contaminated with lead and mercury.
Mindy: Well, what can I get you?
Space Cadet: Got a beer?
Mindy: Isn’t beer bad for you?
Space Cadet: Yeah, but after a six pack, who cares?
For the people who think that if you can’t pronounce don’t eat it, the official term for cholesterol is: (3S,8S,9S,10R,13R,14S,17R)-10,13-dimethyl-17-[(2R)-6-methylheptan-2-yl]-2,3,4,7,8,9,11,12,14,15,16,17-dodecahydro-1H-cyclopenta[a]phenanthren-3-ol.
Here in Wisconsin, local communities and counties all across the state have, over the last 8 years, conducted literally hundreds of referenda imploring the state legislature to (1) legalize marijuana, (2) adopt a non-partisan redistricting commission, and (3) petition Congress for a Constitutional amendment to get big money out of politics. These referenda invariably pass by gargantuan margins, 70-80-90%. And they’ve been adopted in jurisdictions representing over ¾ of the state’s population.
The legislature, however, dominated by Republicans (because Wisconsin is the most gerrymandered state in the nation), continues to ignore this outcry from mere citizens because, you see, they need to be slavishly responsive to their true constituents, the big-money interests and religious fanatics.
