Anyone who has given care to the elderly is aware of the hazards of shrapnail. I admit, I’ve never heard of one going up a nostril, but my eyeglasses have saved my eyes on numerous occasions.
Yep, it was bound to happen. Just like, statistically, when you flip a coin there’s a non-zero chance that it will end up balanced on edge. Which is the root of the typical college student’s behavior: Heads, we get loaded, tails we get stoned; if it stands on edge we study!

Lemme see, here… Toes to nose, ~36". Nostrils, ~1/2" square. Clippers, + or – 15 degrees off horizontal. Carry the 12…. Nope, can’t do it.
