Read a story in High Times years ago. The magazine filled a room with weed for a photoshoot. When they repackaged it about four pounds was missing. They figured out that the raw weed was moist and the hot studio lights had dehydrated it.

Zonker will happily settle for that.

May I point out that the parts of the scales, including springs, also are effected by gravity variation. My instincts are: zero differences in weight because the masses of the scales and bales doesn’t change. Except for a small amount of settling.

Who will “bale” Zonker out,when the man shows up ;)

Well, a “ton of pot” would be 2000 lb. Even if it was a metric ton, that would only be 2204 lb. So, if he’s delivering 2300 lb, then there has been some significant weight increase during transportation.

Unless the extra 300 lb is actually a DEA agent hiding in one of the bales waiting to leap out and arrest poor innocent Zonker!

Zonker’s lucky I wasn’t the delivery guy. I appreciate all the physics in the comments because physics rules. I believe the weight differential due to gravity would be trivial to the amount lost to evaporation.

In cognac production, they call it “the angel’s share.”

One or two ounces is a small price to pay for silence on the remaining 2,299.875 pounds. That’s cheap “protection.”

Years ago, I was stationed by the Navy in Key West.

It was very common for some of the commercial fishing boats to get a nice income boost when they hauled in a few “Square Grouper” and sold them on the quiet.

By a funny Coinky-Dinky, the Coast Guard ships in the area used to try to chase down boats suspected of smuggling bales of MJ, but which had no cargo on board by the time the CG caught up with them.

It could be worse; they could rip off a certain ice cream company’s motto: We smoke all we can, and sell the rest.

who knew they sold weed by weight/ and in transport it might deflate ?/ And a ton of the stuff/ should be more than enough/ to de-fuse almost any debate.

It must be old school weed; now it’s sold in grams, can you believe it?
